Pattern Photos - New York

I stumbled upon some photos from when I went to New York on my last course (in 2008). With New York being very similar to Hong Kong, especially in terms of buildings and the size of the city, these are particularly appropriate.

My bathroom is currently being refurbished, meaning walls, floorboards, etc. are all exposed, giving the perfect opportunity to capture some interesting patterns.


Also included in this set are some nice images from around my bedroom.

 

 

Character Photo

My characters in a photo taken in front of a Hong Kong building backdrop...

As metioned earlier, the idea is a generic tourist photo where the people in it aren't very happy, as what a "normal" photo would show.


The bright colours and refelctions on the characters' bodies portray Hong Kong's bright lights, which further adds to the potential enjoyment going on around them that they obviously aren't involved in.

Fighting Masks

Another character interaction idea where the characters are fighting while wearing chinese-style masks (to link with Hong Kong and Chinese culture).

Personal Space

A development on the personal space idea:

I've put in long shadows to add a kind of atmosphere.

Characters

A couple of designs for my characters and an idea on how they might interact...

'Personal space' is a key word here, as is 'tension', the characters have maybe had an argument or some sort of disagreement.

To link the characters with Hong Kong, I'm thinking about putting an HK attraction or something behind them.

The idea being that It'll look like a generic tourist postcard or photo, only the people in it don't look happy, as per usual.
